Gonda: Hindi Diwas was celebrated with enthusiasm at Saraswati Devi Nari Gyanasthali PG College in Gonda, where students showcased their talent through poetry, theatre, music, poster-making and a Hindi knowledge quiz. The programme was organised by the Hindi Department on September 12 ahead of Hindi Diwas, with the support of department head Dr Amita Srivastava.
The event was inaugurated by Upma Verma, principal of Kasturba Gandhi Balika Inter College, who garlanded the idol of Goddess Saraswati and lit the ceremonial lamp. Students of the music department presented a welcome song under the guidance of teachers Kiran Pandey and Jaya Tripathi.
College principal Dr Aarti Srivastava welcomed the chief guest by presenting her with a sapling and an angavastram. Students subsequently presented a range of programmes highlighting the richness of Hindi language and literature.
During the poetry recital, BA students Sagnya Pandey, Kashish Singh, Shraddha Tiwari, Seema Verma, Shivani Mishra, Nisha, Nancy Tiwari, Saloni Tiwari and Rajnandini presented Hindi compositions. Their performances were appreciated by the chief guest.
Speaking on the theme ‘Hindi in a Changing Landscape’, Dr Amita Srivastava highlighted the purpose of Hindi Diwas and discussed the evolving role of Hindi in contemporary society. Dr Aarti Srivastava said Hindi represents India’s culture, traditions and national identity and highlighted its growing global presence.
A poster-making competition was also organised, with 12 students participating. Sarika Nag secured first place, followed by Kashish Singh in second and Sania Parveen in third. The judging panel included Aradhana Mishra, Asha Pandey and Pratibha Tripathi.
One of the highlights of the programme was a dramatic presentation of the ‘Karna-Krishna Dialogue’ by Anshika Kaushal and Nisha. Nisha portrayed Karna and effectively brought out his pain, inner conflict and sense of social rejection, leaving the audience deeply engaged.
Students Priya Sharma, Sunita Tiwari, Rohini Sharma, Shivani Yadav, Dolly, Deepali Dubey, Mahima Yadav, Ankita, Saloni, Babita, Ananda Mishra and Kajal Mishra presented musical renditions of couplets by Sant Kabir and Rahim, focusing on ethics and life values.
A Hindi Knowledge and Literature Quiz Competition, conducted under the direction of Dr Anandita Rajat, saw participation from teams representing eight inter colleges in Gonda. The participating institutions included Bhaiya Raghavram Pandey Memorial Shri Gandhi Vidya Mandir Inter College, Radhakund; Swami Vivekanand Inter College; AIMS International School; AIMS Inter College; Sarju Prasad Kanya Pathshala Intermediate College; Kasturba Balika Inter College; Shri Gandhi Vidyalaya Inter College, Railway Colony, Bangawan; and PM Government Girls Inter College.
AIMS International School emerged as the winner. PM Government Girls Inter College secured second place, while AIMS Inter College and Sarju Prasad Kanya Pathshala Intermediate College jointly finished third.
Students Niharika Tiwari and Shreya, along with lecturers Kanchan Pandey and Suvendu Verma, played a key role in organising the quiz. Sagnya Tiwari and Kashish Singh handled the stage proceedings.
Representatives from participating institutions, including Manoj Mishra of AIMS International, Manju Verma of Shri Gandhi Vidyalaya Inter College and Dr Dinesh Kumar Shukla of Swami Vivekanand Inter College, extended Hindi Diwas greetings and appreciated the students’ efforts.
At the conclusion, the chief guest, yoga instructor Samta Dhankani and the college principal distributed certificates to participants and prizes to the winners. The programme concluded with the Gyanasthali song followed by the national anthem.
A large number of faculty members, educationists, staff and guests attended the celebration, making it a vibrant platform for students to express their creativity and deepen their engagement with Hindi language and literature.
